Powerful Online Text and Line Sorter Tool

Quickly organize any text or list exactly how you need it. Our line sorter tool helps you alphabetize, reverse, remove duplicates, and more, all instantly within your browser. Your data is 100% private and secure.

How to Use the Text Sorter

  1. Paste Your Text: Copy your text into the "Input" box on the left.
  2. Select an Option: Choose your desired sorting or cleaning options, like "Case Sensitive" or "Remove Empty Lines".
  3. Click a Function: Press a button like Sort A-Z or Remove Duplicates.
  4. Copy Your Result: Your organized text will appear in the "Output" box. Use the Copy to Clipboard button for convenience.

Features Explained

Alphabetical Sort (A-Z)

Sorts lines based on standard dictionary order. When "Sort Numerically" is enabled, it correctly handles numbers so "Item 10" comes after "Item 9" instead of after "Item 1".

Reverse Line Order

Flips the order of all lines - the last line becomes first, second-to-last becomes second, etc. This is different from "Sort Z-A" which reorders the entire list alphabetically backwards.

Remove Duplicate Lines

Keeps only the first occurrence of each unique line. By default, it's case-sensitive, but you can disable this option to treat "Apple" and "apple" as the same.

Shuffle Lines

Randomizes the order of all lines. Perfect for contests, randomizing lists, or when you need to break up patterns in your data.

Add Line Numbers

Prefixes each line with sequential numbers (1., 2., 3., etc.). Useful for creating numbered lists or adding references to your text.

Filter Lines

Show only lines containing specific text, or remove lines containing certain words. Great for cleaning up data or finding specific entries in large lists.

Common Use Cases: Who is this for?

For Developers

Clean up log files, alphabetize CSS properties, organize lists of feature flags, or prepare data for scripts. Sort configuration files and clean up messy data exports.

For SEOs & Marketers

Alphabetize long lists of keywords, clean up scraped data, find unique domains from a list, or organize competitor analysis data. Remove duplicate URLs and sort marketing campaigns.

For Students & Researchers

Alphabetize a bibliography, sort survey results, organize notes, or clean up research data. Remove duplicate entries from literature reviews and organize reference lists.

For Everyone

Sort a grocery list, organize a list of names for a draw, clean up contact lists, or organize any list you need in a specific order. Perfect for everyday organization tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is my data safe?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. No text or data is ever sent to our servers. It's 100% private and secure - your data never leaves your computer.

Is there a character or line limit?

No. There is no hard limit, but performance may decrease with extremely large files (millions of lines) as it depends on your computer's memory and browser's capabilities. For most users, this won't be an issue.

How do I sort a list of numbers correctly (e.g., 1, 2, 10)?

For lists containing numbers, be sure to check the "Sort Numerically" option. This ensures that 10 is correctly placed after 9, not after 1. Without this option, "Item 10" would come before "Item 2" in alphabetical sorting.

What's the difference between "Case Sensitive" and "Case Insensitive"?

When "Case Sensitive" is enabled, "Apple" and "apple" are treated as different items. When disabled, they're considered the same. This affects both sorting and duplicate removal operations.

Can I download the results?

Yes! After processing your text, you can click the "Download" button to save the results as a .txt file. This is perfect for saving your organized lists for later use.

What does "Trim Whitespace" do?

This option automatically removes leading and trailing spaces from each line before processing. It's extremely useful for cleaning messy data where lines might have extra spaces at the beginning or end.
