Why Your Notes Are Completely Private
🔐 Military-Grade Encryption
We use AES-256-GCM, the same encryption standard trusted by governments and banks worldwide. Your password is processed through PBKDF2 with 100,000 iterations to create an unbreakable encryption key.
Security Level: Even with today's most powerful supercomputers, it would take longer than the age of the universe to crack AES-256 encryption.
🖥️ Client-Side Only Processing
Everything happens in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your plaintext notes, passwords, and encryption keys never leave your device. We literally cannot read your notes even if we wanted to.
Zero Knowledge: We have zero knowledge of your data. All encryption happens locally on your device.
💾 Secure Local Storage
Your encrypted notes are stored in your browser's localStorage. The raw data is completely scrambled without your password. Even if someone gains access to your computer, they would still need your master password to decrypt anything.
Data Isolation: Each browser and device stores data separately. Your notes are completely isolated and secure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my notes really private?
Yes, absolutely. Your data is encrypted using a key derived from your password before it's saved. Without your password, the data is just unreadable gibberish. We use the same encryption standards that protect classified government documents and banking transactions.
What happens if I forget my password?
Your notes will be lost forever. Because we never see or store your password, we have no way to recover your data. This is a feature, not a bug, as it guarantees ultimate privacy. We strongly recommend regularly backing up your notes using the export feature and storing your password in a secure password manager.
Is browser localStorage a safe place to store notes?
For encrypted data, yes. The raw data stored in your browser is scrambled with military-grade encryption. An attacker would need access to your unlocked computer AND your master password to read the notes. It's significantly safer than storing plain text files on your computer.
Can I access my notes on another computer?
Not automatically. This tool is designed for local-first privacy. To move your notes to another device, use the "Export" feature on one computer to download an encrypted backup file, then use the "Import" feature on another computer. You'll need your original password to decrypt the backup.
How does auto-save work with encryption?
Auto-save encrypts your note content every 2 seconds after you stop typing. The encryption happens instantly in your browser, so there's no performance impact. Your notes are always encrypted before being saved to localStorage, ensuring they're never stored as plain text.
What's the difference between this and other note apps?
Most note apps store your data on their servers where employees could potentially access it. Our app never sends your data anywhere - everything stays on your device. While apps like Google Keep or Evernote offer cloud sync, they sacrifice privacy. Our app prioritizes privacy over convenience, giving you complete control over your data.
Can I export my notes as plain text?
Currently, exports are encrypted for security. However, once your notes are unlocked in the editor, you can manually copy and paste the content to any text file. We may add plain text export in the future with appropriate security warnings, but encrypted exports ensure your backup files remain secure even if they're accidentally shared.
